TO WOMEN WITH CANCER
Upcoming Look Good…Feel Better and Reach to Recovery Classes
BAY AREA (January 17, 2012) – The University of Texas MD Anderson Regional Care Center in the Bay Area brings a personal touch to local classes created by the American Cancer Society.
Look Good…Feel Better is a monthly session where volunteer cosmetologists teach women diagnosed with cancer how to cope with skin changes and hair loss due to chemotherapy or radiation treatments. Each woman attending the class receives a complimentary cosmetic kit selected to enhance her complexion type. All cosmetics and skin care products are donated by The Personal Care Products Council Foundation and are tested to be safe for women in chemotherapy treatment.

In addition to Look Good…Feel Better, MD Anderson will host another popular program by the American Cancer Society called Reach to Recovery. The Reach to Recovery Program is an educational and support activity provided by trained volunteers who have survived breast cancer. The informational sessions will last an hour and a half and cover such topics as: lumpectomy, mastectomy, breast reconstruction and facing fears or concerns about cancer treatment or life after cancer. Each person who attends will receive a gift bag with a bra, soft insert and a buddy pillow.

The Look Good…Feel Better and Reach to Recovery classes are held at the MD Anderson Regional Care Center in the Bay Area—18100 St. John Drive, Suite 150. Pre-registration is required; participants can call 713-563-0670 extension 2 to register or obtain more information about the classes. The programs are open to MD Anderson patients as well as any cancer patients in the Bay Area who are interested in attending. The MD Anderson Regional Care Center in the Bay Area is located on the campus of CHRISTUS St. John Hospital in Nassau Bay. As MD Anderson’s first comprehensive clinical cancer center to open outside of the Texas Medical Center, the Regional Care Center in the Bay Area provides medical oncology, radiation oncology, chemotherapy infusion, diagnostic testing, laboratory and pharmacy services and nutritional counseling.
